Andrea Geyer

1971 Freiburg, DE – New York, NY, US

Andrea Geyer studied art, photography, film and design in Germany and in the USA. Andrea Geyer’s work addresses the construction and politics of time at the intersection of politics, culture, and history. With a particular focus on women, the work engages particularly potent social and political situations, events, and conditions, with the aim of creating spaces of critical, collective reflection on the politics and ideologies of temporal translations and audiences’ uneasy compliance. Andrea Geyer uses both fiction and documentary strategies in her image and text based works. She investigates historically evolved concepts such as national identity, gender and class in the context of the ongoing re-adjustment of cultural meanings and social memories in current politics.
