Exhibition concept

The core tasks defined by the Museum der Moderne Salzburg are an active exhibition programme, comprehensive dissemination activities and a consistent collecting and purchasing policy.

On approx. 3000 m2 of total exhibition space the Museum der Moderne Salzburg presents national and international exhibition projects on Classic Modernism, post–World War II art and contemporary art. The varied exhibition programme includes thematic exhibitions, monographic projects, group and solo exhibitions. Different thematic presentations of the museum's own comprehensive collection are a focal point of the museum's exhibition strategy.

As a platform for cultural discourse the Museum der Moderne Salzburg seeks an intensive cooperation with a national and international audience on an artistic, media, social and economic level. Today the Museum der Moderne Salzburg increasingly defines itself as a mediator: it wants to dispel people’s fears and reduce their reluctance to occupy themselves with art and arouse the interest of children in art. For this purpose a varied and individual supporting programme for all age groups is organized in conjunction with each exhibition.

A special focal point of the museum is art education for children and adolescents. Children can participate in special weekend and holiday programmes.
