Library

Since April 2005 the library of the Museum der Moderne Salzburg has been open for the public.

The former employee library has been located at the Rupertinum since 1983. With the acquisition of the private library of Kristian Sotriffer, a journalist and art critic for the Austrian daily newspaper “Die Presse" who died in 2002, the holdings of the library could be increased from 15.000 to 23.000 items. The collection includes numerous catalogues of works which have been out of print for many years. What is especially remarkable about this private collection is the fact that Sotriffer added his critiques for "Die Presse" and reviews by art critics from other media to the respective catalogues.

The library includes books on:
- 20th and 21st century art, Classic Modernism, with a focus on contemporary art
- reference works, catalogues and monographs on artists and the above themes
- current international exhibition catalogues
- auction catalogues, art price annuals, art magazines, periodicals
- a comprehensive photo library

As this is a reference library only, borrowing is not possible. Internet access and a copying machine are available for scientific work.
The digitization of the library's holdings has been intensified since the reorganization. Currently 14,582 titles (as of 23.9.2010) are accessible via TMS database, including the entire technical literature of the Austrian Photographic Gallery which is integrated into the Rupertinum.
If you have any further questions, please contact our librarian, Mag. Cattrin Ramesmayer.
