DESCRIPTION:The Museum der Moderne Salzburg is pleased to invite you to the
  opening of the exhibition Kokoschka’s Backgrounds.\n\nThe exhibition of
 fers insights into Oskar Kokoschka’s compositions, focusing on a lesser-
 known aspect of his work: the development of his pictorial backgrounds.\n\
 nEarly paintings are juxtaposed with works from the late 1930s to the 1970
 s and complemented by drawings and prints from the museum’s extensive co
 llection. The exhibition traces how Kokoschka’s backgrounds evolved over
  the course of his career: from flowing fields of colour that surround his
  sitters like an aura to narrative pictorial spaces in which attributes an
 d additional elements become important carriers of meaning.\n\nAt the open
 ing, Harald Krejci (Director) and other distinguished guests will give wel
 coming remarks.\n\nThe exhibition is presented in cooperation with the Fon
 dation Oskar Kokoschka, Vevey.\n\nWe look forward to welcoming you.
