Gordon Matta-Clark (New York, NY, US, 1943–1978) was one of the most prominent figures on the New York arts scene of the 1970s, making innovative work that undertook a probing critique of architecture and society. The Museum der Moderne Salzburg presents the exhibition Out of the Box: Gordon Matta-Clark from November 13, 2021 until March 6, 2022, which offers new insight into the artist’s creative thinking.
The symposium provides an in-depth insight into the archival and collection work of the Canadian Centre for Architecture, Montréal, and the Generali Foundation on the artist. The starting point is the exhibition Out of the Box: Gordon Matta-Clark, which makes previously unpublished material accessible and tests new ways of reading the archives. In addition, two experts will speak about Matta-Clark's influence on movements in art and architecture.
