GENERATOR #5: Georgia Gardner Gray
Old Town (Rupertinum)
Curator: Marijana Schneider
Georgia Gardner Gray is an American artist living and working in New York and Mallorca. Her artistic practice includes figurative painting and theatre performance. She creates characters that embody archetypal roles and reflect the spirit of our time. Influenced by pop culture, European modernism, and the theater of the absurd, Gray (1988, New York, NY, US) draws attention to the contradictions and peculiarities of the present. With depth and wit, she illustrates how people’s perceptions of history, art, and authenticity differ, especially when social pressure and personal expectations collide.
For her first solo museum exhibition, Gray develops new works in dialogue with the collections of the Museum der Moderne Salzburg. The exhibition presents images of the present, where truths and realities collide—and the proximity of an uneasy comedy becomes apparent.
